Jamshedpur: Twin tiger cubs born at Tata Steel Zoological Park

Jamshedpur: Tata Steel Zoological Park has welcomed a joyful addition to its wildlife family with the birth of two healthy tiger cubs to Meghna, its resident tigress, after a long hiatus in tiger breeding at the facility.

The cubs were born during the daytime on November 27. Following established zoo protocols, the birth was not announced immediately to ensure the safety and well-being of both the mother and her newborns.

Zoo authorities have confirmed that the cubs are stable and under constant supervision by experienced veterinary and animal care teams. Meghna was named by citizens of Jamshedpur through a public naming contest organised by the zoo.

The father, Rudra, whose name was also chosen by the public, shares a similar backstory. Both tigers are of wild origin and were relocated to Tata Steel Zoological Park from the Rescue Centre at Gorewada, Nagpur.

Reinforcing its tradition of community participation, the zoo will soon invite residents of Jamshedpur to take part in a naming contest for the newborn cubs. The winners will be formally recognised.

Zoo officials termed the birth a significant milestone, highlighting the park’s commitment to wildlife conservation, responsible animal care, and breeding programmes that support the long-term preservation of endangered species.
