Jamshedpur to host The Great Jharkhand Run on December 8

Over 1,000 athletes to participate in 4th Masters Athletics Championship

Jamshedpur, Dec 5: The Great Jharkhand Run and the one-day fourth Master Athletic Championship 2024, organized by the Masters Athletics Association of Jharkhand, will take place at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Sunday, December 8.

Vijay Singh, President of the Jharkhand Athletics Association, addressing a press meet at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Thursday said that the championship, which will see participants from the 30+ to 85+ age groups competing in 10 categories for both men and women. Events will include races (100m, 400m, 800m), a 3 km walk, and field events like shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, long jump, and triple jump. In the women’s category, there will also be a 100m and 200m race, 1 km walk, and other field events.

Athletes from 17 districts across Jharkhand are taking part, with over 1,000 participants and 120 technical officials expected, Singh informed.

He stated that this is the first time such an event is being held in Jamshedpur. Accommodation arrangements have been made for participants traveling from distant areas, and all competitors will receive T-shirts and participation medals. Winners will be awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals, along with certificates.

The Great Jharkhand Run will take place in the morning session, featuring 10 categories, with races for different age groups ranging from 12 to 85 years. Men in the 12-50 age group will race 3 km, while the 50-62+ category will compete in a 2 km race. Women aged 18-40+ will also race 2 km. Medals, certificates, and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category.

Also present at the press conference were SK Tomar (Secretary), Gyan Singh (Senior Vice President), Arif Imam (International Athlete Coach), Gurusharan Singh (Spokesperson), and Shyam Kumar Sharma (Secretary, East Singhbhum).
