Rs 31k prize money up for grabs
Jamshedpur, June 1: Steel City will be hosting the 16th India Open Yoga Sports Championship 2022 on June 4 and 5 at The Bengal Club in Sakchi.
The two-day championship is being jointly organised by Karmakar Institute of Yoga, The Bengal Club and Tata Steel Foundation, informed Baishali Karmakar, President, Karmakar Institute of Yoga.
Addressing a press meet at The Bengal Club on Wednesday, Baishali said, 600 participants including more than 200 from Jamshedpur will be participating. Yoga performers from almost all the yoga institutes, schools, colleges of Jamshedpur and different districts of Jharkhand including Ranchi, Chaibasa and Dhanbad and from states like West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Maharashtra will also be part of the championship.
She further said that championship offers a total of prize money of Rs 31,000 which includes Rs 10,000 for Champion of Champions. Runner-up will get Rs 5000 and 2nd runner-up will bag Rs 3000 cash award.
Winner in junior boys and girls category will get Rs 3000 each.
Baishali Karmakar informed that considering that Yoga is an integral part of education a written test will also be conducted with the aim of promoting yoga among children and the winner will be awarded Rs 1,000.
President of the institute, Karmakar, said, “Due to pandemic no yoga championship could be organized and as we gather again there is lot of enthusiasm among yoga instructors, teachers, and students. Karmakar Institute of Yoga has been making people aware about the benefits and promoting yoga culture.”
She further said that championship will be inaugurated jointly by Prem Ranjan, the regional director of JIADA (Adityapur region), social worker Beli Bodhanwala and Jiren Topno Head, Tata Steel Foundation on June 4.
Ranjit Bhattacharjee will be present as special guest for the occasion.
Also present at the press conference were Pappu Shukla, District Secretary, East SinghbhumYoga Association, Ranjit Bhattacharjee, Gurbari Hembrom from Tata Steel Foundation, Devashish Naha, General Secretary, Bengal Club, Anshuman Chakraborty, Vice President, Bengal Club and Ashish Majumdar.
