Bank of one million trees to come up at Makdam Park   

Tata Steel USIL to provide water in bagan and basti areas: MD

Jamshedpur, Nov 16: Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited is credited with launching many exciting firsts for the citizens of Jamshedpur. One among them being the Public Square in Bistupur that continues to be the favorite haunt of many or all everyday of the week. Yet, the bag of pleasant surprises remains laden with a plethora of exciting packages. The citizens will soon find themselves enamored with the mystery of 2.5 km long Jungle Trail that is 65% ready and will be gifted shortly for suspense laden experience that has all the packages to attract and excite.           

Located near Marine Drive towards Parsi Aramgah, the 2.5 KM long Jungle Trail is a short trail with easy access that is setup for young and old to get out and explore nature.

“The work is going on and it will be the first kind of trail we are working on. Along with Jungle Trail, we are also working on a Bio Diversity Park planned in the western part of Jamshedpur,” said Tarun Daga, managing director, Tata Steel UISL, while addressing a press meet at Beldih Club. Like, Public Square in Bistupur we hope to get the same response from Jungle Trail, MD said. 

Sharing details about work done in the area of horticulture, he said that green coverage in Jamshedpur continues to be at approximately 37% (highest in any industrial town). The company maintains big and small parks. In the last 10 years, about 14 parks were developed and renovated, and presently maintaining 30 of them. In the last five years we have planted approximately 4.4 lakh trees / saplings. During the past two years, we are developing Tree Bank and have around 2.5 lakh saplings that are being nurtured. He went on to inform the company has set up a Tree Bank at Makdam and plans are to take numbers to one million trees in next few years.

New Park to come up at Ramnagar

MD informed that the company has redeveloped several parks in the city and has plans to come up with a new park at Ramnagar and have also bought a tree transplanter for relocation of specific trees.  Daga said that water bodies in the city including Bara area, Sarnath Pond and Jayanti Sarovar have been rejuvenated.

Road widening work continues

Talking about the company’s plans of widening of roads, central verges across the city, the managing director said, “Under phase one, we have completed more than 25 kms stretch and in phase two, work has been completed on 7.5 kms stretch out of 16 kms. Jamshedpur has more than around 70 roundabouts and 45 have been redesigned, restructured and reformed while parking facilities at market areas of Bistupur and Sakchi and Kadma has been improved.”

Water Service coverage to increase

Tata Steel UISL is also working on increasing the connection base every year and especially there are initiatives taken up to include bagan / basti areas in the water service coverage. Water projects will be completed in eastern and western Jamshedpur, as a result of which we will be able to increase the coverage in due course. Tarun Daga said that water supply will be provided in whole of JNAC area and portable water treatment plant are being set up.  

MD went on to inform that PSTPs / ETPs / Medical waste treatment systems that have been built and being operated, around the town. Recycle and reuse systems have been set up at Bara STP and Kharkai STP. A tertiary treatment plant has been built at Bara STP. During Fy20 to date, sewage treatment has increased from 26 MLD to 40 MLD and recycled sewage from 20 MLD to 36 MLD. Currently there are 11 PSTPs and 15 are proposed to be set up.

Capacity of Moharda water project increased

Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited (Tata Steel UISL) is working on revamping and efficient running of Moharda water project. Its production increased from 9MLD to 15MLD and connections increased as per commitments.

Talking about other projects, Tarun Daga, managing director, said that solar rooftops are also being installed. A total of 48 solar rooftops were facilitated and connected to the TSL network through net-metering schemes. The total installed capacity of these is 8700 KWp. Today they generate around 8 to 9 Lakhs units every month.

City to have 6 new EV Charging facilities

Tarun Daga said that in Fy21 we had two Electric Vehicle charging facilities and this year, will have 6, that is, Bistupur Car Parking area behind Bank of Baroda; N-Town Substation near Sai Temple; JUSCO office gate; Sakchi near Basant Central; Jubilee Park Parking; Office Road Parking.

Jamshedpur climbs from 66 to 13 in SBS ’20

MD further said, “With the support of people, district administration and state government the city of Jamshedpur has earned laurels at the Swacch Bharat Survekshan (SBS) of the Government of India. The all India ranking of Jamshedpur as a clean city has moved from 66 in 2016 to 64 in 2017 to 30 in 2018 to 15 in 2019 and to 13 in 2020. The Survekshan covers the entire area of Jamshedpur and the application is jointly made with Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee and the assessment is done jointly amongst the two entities.”

Jamshedpur received award as “Best Medium City in Citizens Feedback” (3L to 10L population) in 2020, he added.
