Jamshedpur sizzles at 40.3°C as IMD issues thunderstorm alert till June 8

Jamshedpur: Steel City is in the grip of intense heat, with the maximum temperature soaring to 40.3°C, making it one of the hottest places in Jharkhand. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city’s temperature was 2.2 degrees higher than the previous day and marginally above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 28.2°C, nearly two degrees above normal.

The IMD’s evening weather bulletin issued from Ranchi on June 4 showed that Daltonganj recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 41°C, followed closely by Jamshedpur. Chaibasa registered 39.8°C, while Ranchi remained relatively cooler at 35.6°C.

No rainfall was recorded in Jamshedpur during the observation period. Data from the Automatic Weather Station (AWS) indicated that Saraikela touched 40.4°C, reflecting the widespread heat prevailing across the Kolhan region. Baharagora recorded 38.5°C, while Darisai in East Singhbhum registered 37.4°C.

However, relief from the scorching conditions is on the horizon. The Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph across several parts of the state over the next four days.

June 5: Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely at isolated places over most parts of Jharkhand, except the north-western and adjoining central regions.

June 6: Similar weather activity is expected over isolated places across the state.

June 7: Thunderstorm and lightning activity is likely to affect southern and central districts, including Kolhan and adjoining areas.

June 8: Gusty winds and thunderstorm activity may continue over southern and adjoining central parts of Jharkhand.

Meteorologists said the changing weather pattern is linked to active atmospheric systems over eastern and central India. While temperatures may remain high during the day, thundercloud development in the afternoon and evening could trigger localized rain, lightning and strong winds, providing intermittent relief from the heat.

Residents have been advised to remain alert during thunderstorm activity, avoid taking shelter under isolated trees, and follow weather advisories issued by local authorities and the IMD.
