Jamshedpur, Jan 31: The first editor of The Avenue Mail, Pradipta Sen, passed away on January 29, 2024 at his Kolkata residence. Pradipta Da, as he was fondly called, was instrumental in giving all-out support to The Avenue Mail that was launched on June 21, 1993. He was an erudite person, who could, at short notice, write incisive editorials on any and every current topic, be it related to sports, economy or politics. A relaxed and jovial man, Pradipta Sen was a bachelor and was totally devoted to journalism and could work for long hours at a stretch even in his seventies and eighties. He had for long been associated with the Times of India (TOI), having served the paper in different capacities, including as the head of the Patna edition for some years. He was also the editor of the Amrita Bazar Patrika when the paper was re-launched in Kolkata in late 1993. Sen was in his nineties at the time of his death. For people associated with him it is like the end of an era.
