Renuka Choudhary dies after prolonged illness at Gurugram hospital
Jamshedpur, July 4: Renuka Chaudhary alias Guddi and wife of Tata Workers’ Union President Sanjeev Choudhary (Tunnu Choudhary), passed away on Saturday evening after a prolonged illness. She breathed her last at around 4 pm at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.
She is survived by her husband and their two daughters. The news of her demise has cast a shadow of grief across Tata Steel and the Tata Workers’ Union, with employees, union members and well-wishers expressing their condolences.
According to family sources, Renuka suffered a heart attack in February and was initially admitted to Tata Main Hospital (TMH) in Jamshedpur. She was later shifted to the Rabindranath Tagore Cardiac Research Centre in Kolkata, where she underwent open-heart surgery. However, her health continued to deteriorate, prompting her family to move her to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for advanced treatment.
Despite continuous medical care, her condition remained critical. Doctors said her blood pressure frequently dropped, and an infection developed at the site of the surgery, which could not be brought under control. Although there were signs of improvement a day earlier, she suffered repeated cardiac complications on Saturday and was shifted to the Critical Care Unit (CCU), where she passed away.
Renuka had been battling for her life for more than four months. During this difficult period, Sanjeev Choudhary continued to carry out his responsibilities as the Tata Workers’ Union President. He remained actively involved in the wage revision negotiations for Tata Steel employees and successfully concluded the agreement while regularly travelling to be with his wife during her treatment.
On their wedding anniversary on May 20, Sanjeev had shared an emotional social media post for his wife, writing that it was the first time they were spending the occasion apart. He expressed hope that they would meet soon and celebrate together. The heartfelt message has resurfaced following Renuka’s demise, adding to the emotional tributes pouring in from across the city.
