Jamshedpur student misses IIT JEE Main exam after traffic police delay

Jamshedpur, April 3: A student from Jugsalai missed his IIT entrance exam on Wednesday after being stopped by traffic police at Dimna Chowk in Mango for document verification. Despite having all necessary vehicle documents in digital format, the student and his uncle, Anil Kumar Pandey, were detained for a long time, ultimately leading to the student arriving late at the exam center and being denied entry.

According to Anil Kumar Pandey, his nephew’s IIT exam center was located on NH-33, and they left their house at 7:55 AM to reach on time. However, upon reaching Dimna Chowk at 8:20 AM, traffic police stopped their bike for routine checking and demanded vehicle documents. When Pandey showed the documents on his mobile phone, the officers initially refused to verify them.

Pandey explained to the officers that his nephew had an important entrance exam and needed to reach the center on time. He even presented the admit card to confirm the urgency of their situation. Despite repeated requests, the traffic police did not allow them to proceed immediately. Instead, they were held for approximately 10 minutes while the police continued checking other vehicles.

In a desperate attempt to ensure the student reached the exam center on time, Pandey even suggested that the police escort his nephew to the venue themselves. However, his plea was ignored. Eventually, a senior police officer arrived and allowed them to leave, but not before seizing their mobile phone.

By the time they reached the examination center at 8:33 AM, the entry gates had already closed. Despite multiple requests to the exam center director and explanations about the traffic delay, the student was denied entry. As a result, he missed his IIT exam, which was crucial for his academic future.

Frustrated by the incident, Anil Kumar Pandey has decided to file a formal complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) on Thursday. He stated that the negligence of the traffic police had caused his nephew to miss an important opportunity and demanded action against the officers involved.

This incident has raised concerns among students and parents about traffic enforcement disrupting crucial academic schedules. The matter has sparked discussions about whether authorities should introduce more student-friendly verification procedures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
