Jamshedpur, March 30: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vijaya Jadhav Wednesday presided over a meeting of the district level steering cum monitoring committee to review midday meal (MDM) scheme implementation in the various blocks of East Singhbhum. She said a social audit team would conduct surprise inspection of all government schools and inspect the menu, ingredients register, arrangements for hand wash and drinking water and other facilities available to the students. The team would also inspect the check list related to MDM implementation, she said.
The DC said the social audit team would conduct surprise inspection visit to at least eight to 10 schools in each block. She directed the District Education Officer (DEO) SD Tigga to submit a detailed proposal for providing MDM to the students of government schools in Ghatsila, Dhalbhumgarh, Chakulia, Mosabani and Dumaria through the centralized kitchen.
Jadhav directed the officials concerned to ensure that the MDM provided to children has both quality and nutrition. The children should be given meals as per menu, she said.
The DC said kitchen gardens should be set up in schools having sufficient land for the purpose. Fruit bearing plants such as guava, jamun, papaya and other seasonal fruits and vegetables should be raised in such kitchen gardens, she said.
The DC said the school cooks and assistants should compulsorily wear aprons while cooking and serving food to children. The DEO said funds were released for providing aprons to the cooks and assistants.
Jadhav said all schools should make necessary arrangements for rainwater harvesting at their precincts.
Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) Pradip Prasad, SDO Dhalbhum and all BDOs were also present at the meeting.
