Jamshedpur Sizzles at 40.5°C as Daltonganj Tops Jharkhand at 44°C

Jamshedpur: Jharkhand continues to reel under intense summer heat, with Jamshedpur recording 40.5°C on Sunday, 2.8°C above normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi.

The minimum temperature in the city also remained high at 29.1°C, adding to residents’ discomfort. Across the state, Daltonganj was the hottest at 44°C, while Baharagora received the highest rainfall at 4 mm, offering brief relief in parts of East Singhbhum. Ranchi recorded a maximum of 39°C, while Bokaro touched 42.1°C.

IMD has forecast thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at isolated places over southern and adjoining central Jharkhand, including Jamshedpur, over the next two days. On May 25, wind speeds may intensify to 50-60 kmph in some northeastern and central districts. “Residents may get temporary respite from the heat as thunder activity is likely in southern districts,” an IMD bulletin said. However, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in north-western Jharkhand, especially in Garhwa, Palamu, and Chatra.

With changing weather conditions, people in Jamshedpur have been advised to stay alert for sudden strong winds and lightning, while continuing precautions against the ongoing heat.
