Jamshedpur sizzles at 39.5°C as turbulent weather grips Jharkhand

Jamshedpur: Jharkhand is heading into a spell of unstable weather marked by thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and the possibility of hail over the next few days, even as temperatures continue to soar across several districts.
On April 4, isolated places over north-western and central parts are likely to witness thunderstorms with winds of 40–50 Kmph.
The intensity is expected to rise on April 5, with hailstorms likely over north-western and adjoining areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and stronger winds of 50–60 kmph across parts of the state.
The unsettled conditions are forecast to persist through April 6, with hailstorms again likely at isolated places over north-western and adjoining central regions. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 50–60 Kmph are expected to continue.
By April 7, while hail activity may ease, thunderstorms with winds of 40–50 Kmph are still likely at isolated locations, keeping the weather dynamic and unpredictable.
Amid this, heat has tightened its grip on parts of the state. Jamshedpur emerged as the hottest place, recording a maximum temperature of 39.5°C, followed closely by Seraikela at 39°C.

Daltonganj registered 37.8°C, while Ranchi remained relatively cooler at 34.2°C. The sharp contrast between rising temperatures and incoming storm systems is contributing to increased atmospheric instability.
The evolving weather pattern is being driven by a trough extending from north Madhya Pradesh to north Vidarbha at around 0.9 km above mean sea level, along with a persistent upper-air cyclonic circulation over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. These systems are facilitating moisture inflow and triggering convective activity over the region. Trace rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms has already been observed at isolated locations, signalling the onset of this active phase.
Residents are already feeling the dual impact of heat and sudden weather changes. “The afternoons are extremely hot, but by evening the skies turn dark with strong winds—it’s quite unsettling,” said a resident of Jamshedpur.
A Ranchi-based commuter noted, “The temperature is bearable compared to other places, but the sudden thunderstorms and lightning are making daily travel unpredictable.”
Another resident from Daltonganj added, “The heat during the day is intense, and the gusty winds in the evening bring some relief, but the lightning is a concern.”
Weathermen have urged people to stay cautious during thunderstorm activity, avoid open areas during lightning, and remain updated with local weather advisories as conditions may change rapidly.
