Jamshedpur: The city witnessed a magnificent display of devotion and unity as thousands of devotees participated in the grand Nagar Kirtan organized to mark the 556th Prakash Utsav (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. The sacred procession began from Sonari Gurudwara and wound its way through various parts of the city, filling the atmosphere with divine hymns, spiritual energy, and the fragrance of community spirit.

Devotees, dressed in vibrant traditional attire, marched alongside the beautifully decorated Palki Sahib carrying the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The Nagar Kirtan was accompanied by the singing of Shabad Kirtan, displays of Gatka (Sikh martial art), and the distribution of Langar Seva (community meals) at various points along the route. The entire procession reflected the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji — of humility, service, and equality.

Prominent social leader Amarpreet Singh Kale joined the Nagar Kirtan and paid his obeisance before Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Extending greetings to the Sangat, Kale emphasized the eternal relevance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s message of peace and brotherhood. “Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s life and teachings inspire us to eliminate discrimination, untouchability, and hatred. His philosophy of ‘Sarbat da Bhala’ — the welfare of all — guides us to live harmoniously in an inclusive society,” he said.

The Nagar Kirtan, organized under the aegis of the Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC) and various Gurudwara Prabandhak Committees, saw active participation from members of the Sikh Naujwan Sabha, Stree Satsang Sabha, and volunteers from different localities. The event also received strong cooperation from the district administration and police department, ensuring a smooth and peaceful celebration.

Expressing gratitude, Kale lauded the efforts of all organizations and volunteers who contributed to the successful execution of the Nagar Kirtan. “The collective spirit of Seva (service) and discipline shown by every participant reflects the true essence of Sikhism. The exemplary coordination between religious bodies, administration, and local residents ensured that the event remained both devotional and orderly,” he remarked.

Throughout the day, devotees participated in prayers, Kirtan Darbars, and Langar Seva, which were open to people of all communities, underscoring the inclusive essence of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings. The atmosphere remained charged with devotion as hymns echoed across the city, spreading the message of compassion and righteousness.

As the sacred procession concluded, devotees expressed renewed commitment to living by Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s guiding principles of truth, humility, equality, and service. The 556th Prakash Utsav thus became not only a celebration of faith but also a reaffirmation of values that continue to illuminate humanity across generations.
