Jamshedpur: In a demonstration of unity and concern, the Sikh community expressed their strong disapproval and frustration over the cancellation of the Tatanagar-Amritsar Jallianwala Bagh Express train by the Railways, citing fears related to fog during the winter season. The decision, made by the Railway Ministry, has sparked a wave of discontent among the Sikh community, leading to organized protests to voice their concerns.
Bhagwan Singh, the president of the Central Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee, took the initiative to address this issue by convening representatives from various gurudwara committees and institutions. On Thursday, discussions were held to formulate a collective response to the cancellation of the vital train service.
In a bid to register their dissent, it was decided that a delegation, comprising representatives from the Sikh community, would present a memorandum to senior officials at the Tatanagar Railway Station. The memorandum is intended to convey the community’s objection to the decision and seek reconsideration by the Railway Ministry.
A spokesperson for the Sikh community, expressed concern over the Railway Ministry’s decision to cancel the Amritsar-bound train, attributing it to the anticipated fog during the winter months. He pointed out the apparent inconsistency, highlighting that several trains on the Tatanagar-Delhi route continue to operate despite similar weather conditions.
The controversy centers around the cancellation of the South Eastern Railway Zone’s Tatanagar-Amritsar Jallianwala Bagh Weekly Express, scheduled from December 4th to March 1st. The decision has not only disrupted travel plans but has also stirred discontent within the Sikh community.
Sardar Shailendra Singh, a prominent community member, expressed the community’s disappointment, stating that on October 21, during the visit of the Railway Minister and Railway Board Chairman to Amritsar from Badampahar to Tatanagar, a demand was made not to cancel the Jallianwala Bagh Express train. The subsequent decision to cancel the train has ignited anger and frustration within the Sikh community.
The Sikh community is fervently urging the Railway Ministry to reconsider its decision, emphasizing the importance of the Tatanagar-Amritsar Jallianwala Bagh Express in facilitating travel and maintaining connectivity for the community. The planned memorandum submission at the Tatanagar Railway Station serves as a collective plea for a review of the cancellation, emphasizing the vital role this train plays in meeting the transportation needs of the Sikh community. Further developments on this matter are eagerly awaited as the community awaits a response from the authorities.
