Jamshedpur Sharma Hotel fined Rs 20,000 for food safety violation

Jamshedpur, Oct 13: A team of food safety officials conducted a surprise inspection of several shops, restaurants and eateries in the urban areas of the city on Thursday. It imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the proprietor of Sharma Hotel at Dhatkidih for alleged violation of food safety laws.

Sources said the FSSAI licence was not displayed at a prominent place in the said hotel. Also, sweets and other food items were being reportedly prepared by the hotel staff without wearing aprons and head covers. The kitchen walls were found to be covered with soot and dust. Sweets were reportedly being sold without best before dates on them.

The proprietor was found guilty of violating Section 56 and 58 of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, said the officials. The team also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on M/S Durga Store, Dhatkidih, for violation of the said Act. Best before dates were not found on several food items being sold there and the FSSAI licence had also expired, sources said.
