Jamshedpur, Aug 18: Tatanagar railway station will soon get its third overbridge. The station management has undertaken several infrastructure projects which include the overbridge. Officials informed that said the engineering wing of Tatanagar railway has come up with a final blueprint of the Rs 2 crore project. The blueprint was also approved by South Eastern Railway.

As per the plans, the third foot overbridge would come up next to the first foot overbridge at the Kharagpur end of the railway station. It will connect platform no 1 with the other four platforms. Work for the project is expected to start from September.

” It is one of our ambitious projects and we are looking forward to making it a success. We have identified the place for putting up pillars on the platforms. Work for the project was supposed to begin earlier this year but couldn’t due to the second wave of Covid-19, ” said an official of Tatanagar railway station.

Currently, the A1 category station has two foot overbridges. The second one costing Rs 1.90 crore was inaugurated in October 2019.

He said that Garden Reach, the headquarters of South Eastern Railway (SER), has given a green signal for the proposal of a third foot overbridge sent by the Chakradharpur railway division. The third foot overbridge would come up at the Kharagpur end of the railway station.

Tatanagar railway station with five platforms is the busiest station under Chakradharpur division of the South Eastern Railway.

Tatanagar  railway station, located on the Howrah-Mumbai main line,  witnesses 45 pairs of express, mail and passenger trains, serving as many as 60,000 passengers daily. Most of the long distance and high profile trains including Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Howrah-Mumbai Duronto Express and Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Superfast Express  usually halt at platform no. 2,3 4 and 5. But, in view of the pandemic around a dozen trains pass through the station these days. The footfall of passengers has also come down drastically.
