Former TMH RMO succumbs to infection

Jamshedpur, Sep 28: Jamshedpur on Tuesday saw its first fatality due to complications from Covid-19 in nearly two months. East Singhbhum’s death toll went up to 1058 after 75-year-old former RMO of Tata Main Hospital (TMH) succumbed to the disease at TMH, the first such fatality to be reported after July 30, 2021. After testing positive for Covid-19 on September 25 he was admitted to TMH.

He was ill for the past 10 days and was being treated at home but when his health deteriorated he was rushed to the hospital.

He breathed his last at around 1.30 pm on Tuesday, September 28. Former TMH RMO had been suffering from kidney disease and hypertension.

Dr A K Lal, civil surgeon confirmed the incident. The retired RMO died of cardiac arrest was positive of corona.

Meanwhile, the district administration has asked all authorities to focus on adopting extra preparedness measures ahead of festive season and to ensure that the COVID protocol is in place in all shops and establishments and markets where people are likely to congregate.

The city witnessed its first COVID death when a 71-year-old man who was a resident of Sonari died at the Tata Main Hospital on July 4, 2020. Till today 1058 people have died of Covid-19. The last took place on July 30. 

“As per our study those with existing ailments, prior conditions are getting infected. Any death, from a stroke, a heart attack, bronchopneumonia, everything is getting included as COVID-19,” said an official.

He noted that the problem is happening because of some other serious disease, those who have it are a little weak. Because of that weakness, COVID-19 infects them and kills them.

Total positive cases have reached 51881 in Jamshedpur of which 50817 patients have recovered while active cases have come down to 7.  

The Kolhan Division which was under green zones, came under coronavirus map with two persons testing positive at Chakulia, under East Singhbhum district on May 12, 2020.
