Jamshedpur School kids ‘punished’ for exposing MDM scheme anomalies

Jamshedpur, Dec 12: Several students of the Government School, Sopodera, situated at Parsudih, were allegedly beaten up with bamboo sticks by the Head Mistress Saroj Soren for revealing anomalies in the implementation of the midday meal (MDM) scheme before the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum.

Sources said the DC had recently visited the school for inspection. During her visit, she inquired whether the students got full diet as per the prescribed menu. She was reportedly told the children were given just one egg in place of two. The students also told her there were just two teachers in the school who were often found busy with their mobile phones on duty, sources said.

After the DC’s departure, the Principal allegedly thrashed the students on Saturday for revealing the facts before the DC. The parents of the students reached the school today to complain about the incident.
