100-Bed Prefabricated Hospital to Be Inaugurated at Sadar Hospital on January 16

Jamshedpur: Healthcare facilities at Sadar Hospital in Khasmahal are set to receive a major boost with the inauguration of a 100-bed prefabricated hospital on January 16. With the new facility becoming operational, the total bed capacity of the hospital will increase from 100 to 200, significantly easing the long-standing shortage of beds.

The inauguration of the new prefabricated hospital is expected to mark a significant step towards strengthening public healthcare infrastructure in the region.

At present, the hospital’s outpatient department records around 600 to 700 patients daily, while the emergency unit treats nearly 60 to 70 patients each day. On average, 10 to 15 emergency patients require admission daily, but due to limited bed availability or critical conditions, six to seven patients are often referred to other hospitals. The new prefabricated hospital is expected to reduce such referrals and improve the overall quality of treatment.

To ensure proper patient care, a hospital manager has been appointed to monitor services in both the existing and the new hospital units. In addition, a staff member from the Civil Surgeon’s office has been deputed to work alongside the hospital manager to identify shortcomings and ensure timely improvements.

The 100-bed prefabricated hospital is expected to benefit nearly one million people across the Kolhan region by strengthening healthcare services. Serious and critical treatments will also be introduced at the new facility. For its operation, 20 personnel have been appointed, including four doctors, four staff nurses, and ANMs. The number of doctors will be increased gradually to further enhance patient care.

According to Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal, patients earlier had to be referred to other hospitals due to bed shortages, but with the new facility, this problem will largely be resolved.

Key Facilities at the New Hospital
The prefabricated hospital will feature modern wards with oxygen supply at each bed, a mini operation theatre, pathology laboratory, X-ray and ultrasound services, and arrangements for attendants to sit and stay. Free testing for thalassemia and sickle cell anemia will be available. Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, surgical procedures and dialysis services will also be provided. With expanded capacity, treatment for up to 200 admitted patients can be carried out simultaneously.

Existing Services at Sadar Hospital
Currently, the hospital offers OPD services, maternity care, inpatient facilities, AIDS testing, pathology, X-ray, ultrasound, immunisation, dialysis, blood bank, Ayushman card services, e-hospital services, ambulance support, emergency care, ECG, Jan Aushadhi centre, and several other essential healthcare services.
