City all set to host annual event on Nov 20, Fun Run of 2 KM introduced
Jamshedpur, Nov 16: The 8th edition of Jamshedpur Run-a-thon 2022–an important event in the steel city’s sporting calendar-is all set for the get-set-go mark on November 20.
Jamshedpur Run-a-thon is happening in ‘physical mode’ after a gap of two years with a theme of “Fitness is Fun, Just Run!”
The event is being organised in four categories. While the 10-KM and 7-KM have an age limit of 19 years and above, the 5-KM category will be open to children and adults aged 16 to 19 years. These three categories, competitive in nature, will have prize money attached to it. Total prize money of Rs 5,37,000 will be up for grabs.
The 10-KM is the internationally approved distance for road races by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
The organisers have introduced a new category called the Fun Run of 2 KM for children above the age of 12 years and sports enthusiasts who want to experience the Run-a-thon. It also encourages family as one Team to participate.

This year Jamshedpur Run-a-thon is being organised under the aegis of Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and will have participation from Jharkhand Athletics Federation, Master’s Athletics Association of Jharkhand and District Athletics Association East Singhbhum, said Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President Corporate Services Tata Steel.
Addressing a press meet at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Wednesday, Chanakya Chaudhary informed, “The route this year has been charted to ensure that the runners experience the iconic spots of Jamshedpur in their early morning run. From lush green Kadma-Sonari Link road to Tata Steel Zoological Park to Jayanti Sarovar to Jubilee Park to The Furnace. Jamshedpur Run-a-thon 2022 will refresh the sense of a Clean & Green Jamshedpur among the runners and the citizens of Jamshedpur.”
He further said that the prize money in the men and women category will be the same and this year metallic medals will be awarded the winners.
3800 people have registered so far and we expect participation of 5000 people this time around. To make the annual run hygienic and professional the route will have facilities including dustbins, water, ambulance, doctors, mobile toilets etc, Tata Steel VP added.
Chaudhary went on to add that this year for the first time, for every registration, Tata Steel will plant a sapling to further increase the green cover of the city.
The run is being organised under the supervision of former Olympian Anand Menezes, who has been working as Senior Chief Coach in Tata Steel Sports Department, Jamshedpur.
Also present at the press conference were Ashish Kumar, Head Sports, Tata Steel, Mukul Choudhari, Jamshedpur FC CEO and Anand Menezes.
