Jamshedpur, November 8: The contract company doing road construction work has been suspended for openly dumping garbage and spreading pollution in the Kharkai river of Jamshedpur.
The action has been taken after the news was published in the November 7 issue of a Hindi Daily.
Adityapur Toll Bridge Corporation Limited (ATBCL), a joint venture of Tata Steel and AIDA, has taken action against the contract company in the matter of uprooting the upper surface of the road and dumping it directly into the river during road construction on Kadma Toll Bridge.
Also instructions have been given to immediately clean the bitumen and other garbage thrown in the river. As soon as the instructions were received, the contract company started the work of cleaning the river.
The work of constructing the road has been stopped. On the other hand, Jharkhand Pollution Board has sent a notice to ATBCL in the matter and asked to take action against the culprits.
Committee member Karunanidhi Dubey has filed a written complaint at Kadma police station. It has been said in the complaint that on November 6, when he was going from Bada Gamhariya towards Kadma, he saw the debris coming out of the road being dropped into the river through a machine.
He objected, but they did not agree and instead started threatening him. A demand has been made to Jamshedpur’s Kadma police station in-charge to take action in the matter. Also, the matter has been complained to NGT Bench Kolkata and SDO.
Regional Officer of Pollution Board, Rampravesh Kumar said that ATBCL has been asked to take action. The matter is being monitored.
At the same time, Prem Ranjan of ATBCL said that the contract company has been suspended regarding this. The river is being cleaned.
