Jamshedpur: Rivers flow on danger mark, administration sounds alert

Jamshedpur, July 31: Following  incessant rains for the last two days and with the opening of 9 gates of Chandil Dam in the morning, Deputy Commissioner Suraj Kumar has asked authorities to be on alert.


According to the report released till 12 noon, the Kharkai river is flowing above the danger mark near the Adityapur bridge site, while the water level is continuously increasing in Subarnarekha. All the concerned officials have been instructed by the Deputy Commissioner to keep all the facilities in the shelter home up to date. 
Sensing seriousness of the situation, SDO Dhalbhum Sandeep Kumar Meena along with special officer of JNAC inspected the coastal areas of Kharkai and Subarnarekha and took stock of the relief work and also inspected the shelter home and provided necessary guidelines.


 Since this morning, the officials of the concerned area are continuously camping in the banks of the river and warning people not to go towards the river bank. Special Officer of Mango Notified Area Committee, Circle Officer Jamshedpur Sadar, Block Development Officer and Circle Officer Ghatshila and all other Block Development Officers and Circle Officers constantly inspecting the coastal areas of the river, making people aware about the rise in water level. They are appealing people to stay safe.
Apart from keeping the relief material and ration packets ready, the people living in the low/coastal area have been instructed to be informed about the situation through continuous mining. 


Teams have been kept ready to deal with the emergent situation. The  Deputy Commissioner has directed the Deputy Development Commissioner, Special Divisional Officer and District Supply Officer to ensure the availability of food packets. He has directed the Director DRDA and District Transport Officer to coordinate with NDRF and Tata Steel CSR Group to carry out the works and keep the arrows ready.

In addition, instructions have already been issued to the Director NEP and the Sub-Divisional Officer, Ghatshila to inspect the flood prone areas in Ghatshila subdivision.


The District Deputy Commissioner has appealed to the people of the likely flood affected areas not to go to the areas along the river banks and go to the shelter camps on the announcement made by the district administration, so that there is no loss of life and property.
