Jamshedpur Revives Multi-Storey Parking Plan for Sakchi and Bistupur

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, Feb 14: The long-pending plan to construct multi-storey parking facilities in Sakchi and Bistupur has once again been revived, with a proposal sent to the Jharkhand Government’s Urban Development Department for approval. The initiative, which has been stuck in bureaucratic delays for the past five years, aims to address the city’s growing parking woes, particularly in commercial areas.

According to Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar, the proposed parking spaces have been identified near Basant Talkies in Sakchi and next to the quarters in front of Tilak Library in Bistupur. “A proposal has been sent to the Urban Development Department for approval after marking the site,” he said.

However, challenges remain. While a one-story multi-storey parking structure has already been built near Sakchi Basant Talkies and Tilak Library in Bistupur, land-related issues could hinder future developments. Jusco, which had earlier allocated land for parking, has now requested its return and advised against issuing tenders for the project. This could potentially stall the multi-storey parking plan once again.

With traffic congestion worsening in commercial hubs like Sakchi and Bistupur, the demand for organized parking facilities has increased. Officials are hopeful that the state government will approve the proposal soon to streamline urban mobility and reduce parking chaos in the city.
