Jamshedpur: A demonstration organized by the Sarva Dal Jan Ekta Manch took place on July 6 in front of the East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Jamshedpur. Led by convenor Sanjeev Acharya, the group voiced their concerns over alleged unauthorized construction and illegal road closures in the Kadma area of the city.
The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, with copies also provided to several other local officials and Tata Steel executives. Their primary grievances centered on two issues: the overnight closure of the century-old KD Flat main road and outer circle road in Kadma, allegedly done without proper administrative approval, and ongoing construction near the Kadma main road roundabout. According to the group, approximately 40 feet by 15 feet of public space is being developed into shops, houses, or offices, purportedly in violation of orders from local authorities.
Acharya emphasized that despite multiple written requests to the district administration since January, these issues remain unresolved. The group claims that these actions contravene directives from various local authorities, including the district administration, Tata Steel management, and the Municipal Commissioner. Protesters demanded an immediate investigation into the construction work and called for the reopening of three public roads in Kadma that have allegedly been closed for the past five months. They warned of further agitation if their concerns are not addressed, stating that the district administration and current government would be held accountable for these alleged violations. As the situation unfolds, local residents await a response from authorities regarding these claims of unauthorized development and public space encroachment in Jamshedpur.
