Jamshedpur resident falls victim to cyber fraud, loses Rs 2.20 Lakh

Jamshedpur, April 4: Riya Kumari, a resident of K2-5 Road No. 32 Telco Colony under Telco police station, has been defrauded of Rs 2.20 lakh by cyber criminals who lured her with promises of earning money through Google reviews. Riya has filed an FIR at the cyber police station after initially lodging a complaint online.

The ordeal began on March 28 when Riya received a tempting offer via WhatsApp from a mobile number identified as 8354934527. The caller enticed her with the prospect of earning money by posting Google reviews and requested her bank details. Initially, Rs 200 was transferred to her account as payment for the first day’s review.

Subsequently, on March 29, Riya was introduced to Merchant Traders who promised earnings ranging from Rs 1000 to Rs 1300 through stock trading on mudrexbx.com. A sum of Rs 1000 was deposited into her account through UPI. This pattern continued, with Riya being promised Rs 3900 against an initial investment of Rs 3000. On March 31, a refund of Rs 3600 was purportedly made through UTR, and the trading activities persisted.

As the transactions progressed, Riya was informed about the necessity of paying taxes, leading to further financial commitments. Eventually, she was coerced into depositing a total of Rs 2.20 lakh through UPI. It was only when she was pressurized to pay an additional Rs 2.56 lakh for supposed taxes amounting to Rs 4 lakh that Riya realized she had fallen victim to a scam.

Upon realizing the deception, Riya promptly alerted the online cyber cell and proceeded to file an FIR. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the fraudulent activities.
