Jamshedpur reports highest single day spike with 84 corona cases, tally jumps to 1075

3 deaths, 485 new cases up state tally to 6738

Jamshedpur/Ranchi, July 22: Three people died of Coronavirus in Jharkhand on Wednesday while record 485 positive cases were reported in the state in a single day. Earlier 432 cases were reported on July 21. Total of 117 people were discharged from various hospitals across the state on July 22.

The death toll in Jharkhand stands at 64 while corona positive tally has climbed to 6738.

Two deaths were reported from Koderma district while one person from Ranchi succumbed to the virus on Wednesday.

In Jamshedpur the COVID-19 tally has crossed one thousand mark on Wednesday.  

With 84 new cases reported on Wednesday, July 21, the total cases in East Singhbhum district stands at 1075. Earlier 69 cases were reported in the district on July 21.

The district administration spokesperson informed that 84 corona positives have been identified in the East Singhbhum district on Wednesday.   29 corona positives have been discharged from various COVID-19 hospitals in East Singhbhum district. On the new 84 positives 27 have travel history.

All the positives have been admitted to COVID-19 wards.

For nine days in a row over 200 cases have been reported every single day in the state.

Other Jharkhand positive cases were reported from Bokaro 11, Chatra 2, Deoghar 26, Dhanbad 7, Dumka 2, East Singhbhum 84, Garhwa 43, Giridih 18, Godda 16,  Gumla 29, Hazaribagh 14,Jamtara 3, Koderma 3, Lohardaga 7, Palamu 65, Ramgarh 12, Ranchi 125, Sahebganj 17, Seraikela 1 taking the state corona tally to 6738.

Recently, more than 200 cases are being reported in the state every day. In the month of July the corona mark crossed 300 and 400 twice in day in the month of July.  On Wednesday positive cases came up from 19 of the 24 districts of Jharkhand.  

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state is 3570 and fatalities at 64 while 3048 people have recovered and discharged from the hospital. 2245 corona patients tested positive are migrant workers who returned to Jharkhand after May 1.

The first case of the pandemic was reported from Hindpiri on March 31, when a 22-year-old Malaysian woman, who had been to Delhi�s Tablighi Jamaat congregation, tested positive. She has since been discharged after being recorded from the dreaded disease. East Singhbhum district accounts for 1075 cases out of a total of 6738. The state has imposed lockdown till July 31. Religious places, malls, saloon, spas, schools, colleges will remain closed till July 31.

The cabinet on Wednesday also made not wearing a mask in public places a criminal offence under the Disaster Management Act and decided to slap a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh on the violators. Not wearing a mask could also lead to imprisonment of up to two years, the cabinet decided. 

The decision, officials said, was taken in wake of the Covid-19 pandemic after Jharkhand saw an unprecedented rise in cases of infection in July. The count of Covid-19 cases has tripled in the state since June, and officials have held the lackadaisical approach of citizens responsible for the spike in cases.
