Jamshedpur, July 22: With a surge in the number of Coronavirus positive cases, the tally has now crossed 1000 in just 70 days in East Singhbhum district alone. The first positive case was reported on May 12 and within few days it has crossed 1000.
On the other hand with bed occupancy reaching cent percent in most of the COVID hospitals in the city, the administration has started hunting for new health hubs. Tata Main Hospital has converted GT Hostel into Covid facility. Tata Steel is planning to add more facility to cater to the growing needs of people.
District epidemiologist, Dr Asad the number of cases is rising fast and what is a matter of concern is that the most of the fresh cases are having no travel history.
The Kolhan Division which was under green zone, came under coronavirus map with two persons testing positive at Chakulia, under East Singhbhum district on May 12. However, with the arrival of migrants the figure has reached 500 mark and now it has crossed 1000. Most of the patients do not have travel history. Several other persons tested positive have travel history from Maharashtra, Delhi, Gurugram and Chennai. They had arrived in the city and were staying in quarantine centres in different parts.
The Deputy Commissioner Suraj Kumar has directed to increase the number of ambulances and paid quarantine centers (hotels). He said that all the institutional quarantine centers or paid quarantine centers should have food, cleanliness and other basic facilities and protective equipment available in them.
District civil surgeon Dr RN Jha said a present most of the COVID cases are emerging from within the city limit and are resulting in contact with the infected people. He pointed out the number of COVID cases is increasing fast and even the workers employed in big industries are being tested positive.
The administration has appealed to the people of the district to strictly follow the rules of home quarantine. Even a slight negligence can hit many people in corona. He advised people to strictly adhere to physical distance and essentially use masks and sanitizers.
The administration is working on plans to sanitise other key markets by keeping the areas shut during the weekend. The idea is also to maintain social distancing.
