754 new infections, 8 deaths in Ranchi
Jharkhand sees 1925 new cases, 17 deaths
Jamshedpur, April 9: The COVID-19 pandemic in Jamshedpur hit a grim milestone on Friday when daily cases crossed the 250 mark for the first time since the Covid pandemic. Three COVID deaths have also been reported in the city on April 9.
According to East Singhbhum district health department, Jamshedpur reported 256 new coronavirus cases, the highest single-day spike in the city since the beginning of the outbreak. Total samples tested were 3110 in the last 24 hours.
Earlier during the first wave of virus 223 COVID-19 infections were reported in a single day in Jamshedpur on October 8, 2020. During the day 2722 samples were tested.
With the new infections, the total number of cases in Jamshedpur has surpassed 20 thousand.
The death toll in Jamshedpur now stands at 382, with 3 new fatalities on Friday, April 9.
Of the 256 new cases, 253 are from Jamshedpur urban area including 40 infections from Mango, 38 from Kadma, 19 from Sonari and 25 from Bistupur. One each positives have been reported from Potka, Chakulia and Ghatsila.
There are 1253 active COVID-19 cases in Jamshedpur. The infection tally in the Steel City has gone up to 20164 and a total of 382 fatalities due to the disease have been recorded so far.
As many 18529 people have recovered from COVID-19 so far with 72 recoveries recorded in the last 24-hours. Over 3000 COVID-19 tests, including 1167 RT-PCR, were conducted in the last 24 hours in the city. The hotspot areas of the Steel City Mango, Kadma, Sonari, Bistupur and Sakchi continue to witness a virulent spread of COVID.
The district administration said it would go for aggressive containment and stricter enforcement of health protocols such as wearing masks and keeping social distance.
The surge has led to an increase in hospitalisation.
East Singhbhum district administration has conducted 241142 test per million in the district. The recovery rate in Jamshedpur has dropped down to 93.07% while the mortality rate is 1.89 %.
So far in Jamshedpur 661873 samples have been collected out of which 641921 have been tested and 621757 have turned out to be negative.
On the other hand, Coronavirus tally in Jharkhand on Friday reached 1,34,715 as 1925 new cases of Covid-19 were detected including 754 from Ranchi. 553 people were discharged from various hospitals across the state. During the day 17 death were reported in Jharkhand including 8 from Ranchi, 3 from East Singhbhum, 2 from Dhanbad and one each from Chatra, Gumla, Palamu and Sahebganj as a result of which the overall death count climbed to 1175. Total active cases in Jharkhand are 10604.
As per the information provided by the health department the number of active cases in the state was 10604 while number of cured and discharged cases stood at 1,22,936.
