Jamshedpur, Feb 26: The holy month of Ramadan is expected to begin on February 28, following the sighting of the moon. Taraweeh prayers will commence that evening, while fasting (Roza) will start from March 1. Throughout the month, the Muslim community will observe fasting, prayers and charitable acts.

Ramadan, the ninth and most sacred month of the Islamic calendar, is marked by fasting from dawn to dusk and increased devotion. The festival of Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated after the crescent moon is sighted at the end of Ramadan.

The month is divided into three Ashras—each lasting ten days. The first Ashra symbolizes mercy (Rehmat), the second focuses on forgiveness (Magfirat) and the third emphasizes salvation from hell (Najaat). “Ramadan is a time for spiritual reflection, discipline and helping those in need,” said a local cleric.

During Ramadan, Muslims observe five daily prayers along with additional Taraweeh prayers at night. The reward for worship during this month is believed to be multiplied manifold.

Mosque committees are actively preparing for the month, ensuring cleanliness and organizing spaces for Taraweeh prayers. “We are making arrangements to accommodate the increasing number of worshippers,” said a mosque official.

The pre-dawn meal (Sehri) and evening meal (Iftar) timings have been scheduled, with Sehri starting at 4:47 AM on March 1 and Iftar at 5:54 PM. The timings will gradually shift throughout the month.
