Jamshedpur, September 1: Indian Radiological & Imaging Association (IRIA) Jamshedpur chapter closed down all the radiological services in the city as part of the country wide protest against the PC & PNDT Act on Thursday, September 1.

Ultrasound, CT Scan, MRI and X-Ray services were by suspending as part of the agitation. The worst sufferers were the patients and the IRIA has decided to suspend all the Ultrasonography services all over the country for indefinite period till all the demands of the radiologists are not met.

Jamshedpur Radiological & Imaging Association on Thursday took out a rally and submitted a demand memorandum to East Singhbhum DC Amit Kumar.

On the occasion, Dr. Neeraj Kumar, President, IRIA, Jamshedpur Branch said, ‘despite the draconian provisions of the PC & PNDT Act, Radiologists all over India have been extremely cooperative in following the PC & PNDT Act, with the noble intention of helping to improve the dwindling sex-ratio in the country’.

However at regular intervals, many honest Radiologists, who did not have even remote connection with sex-determination, have been victimized under the PC & PNDT Act for minor clerical error.

In continuation of the harassments, the Indian Radiological & Imaging Association (IRIA) has decided for agitation by suspending all Ultrasound services till justice is served, he added.

Dr. Neeraj said, we have urged the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India and other Govt. bodies that following demands, which are harassing the Radiologist extremely should be taken care of immediately.

Dr. Kumar informed that several of our demands include- clerical errors in Form F/not wearing of apron/non display of notice board / not keeping hand book on PC & PNDT Act should not be equated with Sex Determination and Criminal offence.

Punishment should be graded (in line with the offence). There should standardize implementation of PC & PNDT Act throughout the country.

Ultrasound machines should not be sealed and medical qualification should not be cancelled on minor clerical errors.
