Jamshedpur, July 2: Jamshedpur Public School hosted the city’s first-ever Inter-School Tabla Competition, which saw enthusiastic participation from nearly 20 schools. The event aimed to celebrate India’s rich classical musical heritage and provided a platform for budding tabla artists to showcase their skills in rhythms like Rupak and Baaz.
The programme began with a soulful Saraswati Vandana, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Principal Namita Agarwal and internationally acclaimed tabla maestro Pandit Pradeep Bhattacharya. The judging panel included Dr. Parth Priya Das, renowned tabla player and professor at Arka Jain University, and well-known artist Mr. Jayant Sen, who evaluated the students across multiple categories.

Participants competed in Solo Instrumental categories divided into three groups and a Duet category. In Group A, Pallav Sengupta of Kerala Samajam secured first place, followed by Vishwaroop of Motilal Public School and Jayanto Dutta of Beldih Church School. In Group B, Rajpreet Singh from K.P.S. Burmamines bagged the top position, with Maithili from D.B.M.S. School and Jayanto Dutta from Beldih Church School taking second and third respectively. Group C saw Shrestha Upadhyay of DAV NIT win first prize, followed by Devarun Sen of Vidyabharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya.
In the Duet category, Rajpreet Singh and Divyanshu from K.P.S. Burmamines claimed first place, while Jaideep Day and Dayaniya Sharma from St. Mary’s School stood second.
Principal Namita Agarwal, in her concluding remarks, congratulated the winners and appreciated the efforts of all participants. She said, “Such events instill pride in our cultural roots and foster all-round development among students.”
