Jamshedpur Press photographers honoured on World Photography Day

Photojournalist Srinivas honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award

Jamshedpur: On the occasion of World Photography Day, the Press Club of Jamshedpur, in association with the Mass Communication Department of Karim City College, organised felicitation and award distribution ceremony at the college auditorium on Tuesday. The event celebrated the dedication and contributions of press photographers, who often risk their lives to capture moments of truth.

Veteran photojournalist Srinivas was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his exceptional and challenging work in photojournalism. Along with him, nine senior photojournalists who have made remarkable contributions to the profession were felicitated with the Long Service Award.

The ceremony also witnessed the distribution of first, second and third prizes across four categories of the Photography Competition 2025.

In the Monument Category, Ravi Chaudhary (Dainik Jagran) bagged the first prize, while Parvinder Bhatia (The Pioneer) and Raja Karmakar (The Avenue Mail) secured second and third positions respectively.

In the Nature Category, the top honours went to Vinay Upadhyay (Kharbar Mantra), followed by Shalini Kumari and Saisaab Sarkar.

The Wildlife Category saw Dr. Amit Kumar (Forensic Science Laboratory, Hotwar) win first prize, while Krishna Senapati and Nikhil Sinha were adjudged second and third.

In the News-Based Photography Category, Sudharshan Sharma (Dainik Bhaskar), Brij Kishore Goswami (Prabhat Khabar), and Anirban Nag (Arka Jain University) won the top three prizes.

Prominent editors, including Sanjay Mishra (Prabhat Khabar), Bhavanand Jha (Dainik Bhaskar), Udit Agarwal (Uditvani), Braj Bhushan Singh (Chamakta Aaina), and Jaiprakash (Ispat Mail), along with dignitaries such as Subodh Mishra (senior international journalist and filmmaker) and Dr. Abhishek Kumar, IFS (DFO Lohardaga), graced the event.

The programme was presided over by Press Club president Sanjeev Bhardwaj, with Karim City College Principal Dr. Riyaz delivered the welcome address, and Dr. Neha Tiwari, Head of the Mass Communication Department, proposed the vote of thanks.

A special attraction of the event was the premiere of the short film Press Photographer, written by Anand Bala Sharma, produced by S. Ajay and directed by Tarakeswar Rao.
