Jamshedpur: Residents of the non-company command areas and the Mango Municipal Corporation region continue to suffer from prolonged power outages and a crumbling electrical infrastructure. Acting on the directives of Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy, a delegation from the Janata Dal (United), led by District President Subodh Srivastava, met with the General Manager (GM) of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) to demand immediate intervention.
Heatwave Exacerbates Public Distress
The delegation informed the GM that a persistent irregular power supply has severely disrupted daily life. They highlighted that Jamshedpur is primarily a labour-oriented city; workers returning home after a day of gruelling toil are met with dark, stifling houses, making rest impossible during the ongoing heatwave.
Key concerns raised by the JDU include:
- Academic Impact: Frequent power cuts are hindering students’ ability to study for upcoming examinations.
- Vulnerable Groups: The elderly and women are facing extreme hardship due to the lack of cooling and erratic supply.
- Public Outrage: There is a growing sense of anger among the citizenry regarding the department’s perceived apathy.
Department Promises Quick Resolution
Upon receiving the delegation, the GM convened an emergency meeting with his team of engineers to address the technical bottlenecks. He assured the JDU representatives that the department is serious about resolving the crisis and expects the power situation to normalize within the next 48 hours.
Warning of Public Agitation
The Janata Dal (United) has issued a stern warning to the electricity department. “If the power supply does not improve immediately, the party will be forced to launch a large-scale protest to reflect the public’s fury,” stated District President Subodh Srivastava.
The delegation included Youth Wing President Neeraj Singh, Public Utility Representative Pappu Singh, Amit Sharma, Bir Singh Devgam, Tarak Mukherjee, Manoj Singh, Upendra Singh, Mukesh Singh, and several other party workers.
