Jamshedpur Pollution: PM10 particles cross 400 level in Mango

Jamshedpur, Jan 5: If the figures shown by the Air Quality Index (AQI) machine installed at Mango Chowk are any indication, the local environment may not be suitable for a healthy life.

As per the AQI data shown at Mango Chowk roundabout, the level of particulate matter (PM 10) around 12.52 pm on Tuesday was 404 while yesterday night it was 391. The PM10 level should not be over 100. The level of PM 2.5 was 230 micro gram cubic metre (MGCM). PM10 level reached 423 while carbon dioxide level was 578. Nitrogen level was 10.2 against standard limit of 80.

According to Dr Amar Kumar, Assistant Professor, Zoology Department, Kolhan University, “AQI level below 50 is good while AQI level below 100 is satisfactory. AQI level between 201 and 300 is bad. It is very bad when measured between 301 and 400. Levels between 401 and 500 are very critical.”
