Jamshedpur police warn motorists venturing out without wearing face masks

Jamshedpur, June 18: The city police have reiterated that cases will be filed against the motorists who ventured out without wearing face masks.

City SP Subhash Chandra Jat said that people venturing out should wear mask and carry valid documents. Police will register case against under Section 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) of the Indian Penal Code, sections 130 and 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

In view of shortage of N95 masks in medical stores, the administration has asked citizens to use either a face mask or a piece of cloth or handkerchief with multiple folds, covering the nose and the mouth, while going out of their houses.

Those found violating the instructions will be punishable under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC and the police authorities are empowered to take action against the violators, he said.  People can wear a mask or cover their face with cloth, scarves etc, he said.

The city police have decided to act tough on those who fail to wear face masks while leaving their homes.

He asked people to wear masks when they were in public places and the officials concerned would enforce the rule and impose fine.
