Jamshedpur, July 11:  A police sub-inspector (SI) posted at Birsanagar police station is all set to be arrested for physically exploiting a young woman in the plea to marry her.

The SI identified as Ravi Ranjan Kumar not only exploited the woman but forced her to file a divorce petition before he himself solemnized his marriage at his native place in Samastipur district of Bihar recently.

The victim who is a resident of Bankati village in Baharagora had on July 8 lodged an FIR with the Mahila Police station in Sakchi, leading the police to register a case against the SI.

Deputy superintendent of police (Composite Control Room) Animesh Gupta who investigated the case on Sunday found it to be true.

” We were probing the allegation that a 23-year-old married woman had made against the SI, Ravi Ranjan Kumar was found to be true. Now the investigating officer of the case will have to arrest the accused, ” said Gupta.

According to the DSP, the accused SI when posted in Baharagora police station in 2020 had befriended the woman through social media.

” During investigation we found that after trapping her, Kumar (29) had developed physical relations with the woman and stayed with her in a residential apartment near the Baharagora police station. During this period, he had also forced the woman who is mother of a four-year-old son to give divorce to her husband. As the SI had promised to marry her, she filed a divorce petition with the court. But in the first week of July they went over to Samastipur and married another girl there, ” Gupta narrated.
