Jamshedpur police record statements of witnesses in conversion case

Jamshedpur, March 9: Golmuri police recorded the statements of several witnesses in the alleged religious conversion case registered against a local resident, Ravi, here on Wednesday.

Sources said the investigating officer and SHO of Golmuri PS Arvind Kumar recorded the statements of Meera Singh, Kamaljeet Kaur, Kiran Deep Kaur, Satvinder Kaur, Chandra Shekhar, Vivek Kumar and A Vandana Rao. The witnesses reportedly supported the complaints against Ravi in the FIR.

Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee head Sardar Shailendra Singh accompanied the witnesses to the police station.

Golmuri police had lodged an FIR against Ravi, also known as ‘Pastor’ Ravi and another man, Vishwajeet, on the information of a Govindpur resident, M Sai Padma. The complainant alleged that the accused persons had conspired to carry out religious conversion of several persons and had also given the lure of cash worth Rs 5000 to those who agreed to undergo conversion. Various local Hindu and Sikh outfits had raised hullaballoo over the matter and demanded a police probe into the allegations. Golmuri police have already served a notice to the accused persons seeking their reply on the allegations under Section 41A of Cr.P.C, sources said.
