Jamshedpur, Feb 2: In a major breakthrough, Jamshedpur Police have arrested three persons for allegedly attempting to mow down an on-duty police constable with a car, while one more accused remains at large.
The shocking incident took place around midnight on January 3 near the Toll Bridge roundabout under Kadma police station limits.
According to police, constable Hiralal Mahato was deployed on routine duty when the accused, allegedly acting with criminal intent, tried to run him over using a speeding car.
The constable sustained serious injuries in the attack and was immediately rushed to hospital, where his condition is currently stated to be stable. The incident triggered alarm within the police department.
Considering the gravity of the case, a special investigation team was constituted under the leadership of the City Superintendent of Police on the directions of senior officers. The team conducted an intensive probe using CCTV footage, technical evidence and human intelligence. Following sustained investigation and precise inputs, three accused were successfully apprehended.
The arrested persons have been identified as Amandeep Singh, Ankit Mukhi and Aditya Mukhi, all residents of Jamshedpur in East Singhbhum district.
On their disclosure, police also seized the white Maruti Suzuki Dzire car used in the crime.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to their involvement, stating that they were aggrieved with the police and, driven by this resentment, conspired to kill the constable.
Police officials confirmed that another accused is still absconding, and raids are being conducted at multiple locations to nab him. Authorities expressed confidence that the remaining accused will be arrested soon.
