Dhanbad (IANS) — Authorities heightened security at the Dhanbad Civil Court on Wednesday following an anonymous email claiming a bomb had been planted on the premises. The threat triggered an immediate evacuation and a massive search operation by Jharkhand police.
The District Judge and senior police officials received the alert during active court hours, prompting an urgent response to ensure the safety of hundreds of people on-site.

Swift Evacuation and Intensive Combing
Acting on the threat, officials ordered the immediate evacuation of the entire complex. Police escorted lawyers, litigants, and court staff to safety before sealing all entry and exit points.
Specialized teams, including dog squads and bomb disposal units, conducted a thorough sweep of the following areas:
-
Courtrooms and Judges’ chambers
-
Record rooms and lockups
-
Lawyers’ chambers and parking zones
After hours of intensive combing, investigators confirmed that no explosives or suspicious objects were found. Despite the “hoax” nature of the message, officials stated they are treating the matter with the utmost seriousness.
A Rising Pattern of Threats in Jharkhand
This incident is the latest in a series of digital threats targeting judicial and administrative hubs across the state:
-
February 12: The Ranchi Collectorate received an email claiming a “sulphur nitrate-based” explosive was planted. The sender boasted that the device would be undetectable.
-
February 6: The Ranchi Civil Court faced a similar email-based bomb threat.
In both prior cases, extensive searches yielded no recovery of hazardous materials.
Investigation and Enhanced Surveillance
The Jharkhand Police have activated the Cyber Cell to trace the origin of these recurring emails. Technical teams are currently analyzing:
-
IP Addresses: To pinpoint the geographical location of the sender.
-
Server Logs: To identify the service providers used to mask the emails.
-
Digital Footprints: To determine if a single entity is behind the string of threats.
Senior officers confirmed that enhanced surveillance protocols are now in place at all key judicial and administrative establishments across Jharkhand to prevent potential incidents.
