Jamshedpur: A specialized team of the Jamshedpur Police has landed in Ludhiana, Punjab, to track down gangster Tejinder Pal Singh, the alleged mastermind behind the high-profile abduction of Kairav Gandhi.
Police investigation revealed that the conspiracy to kidnap the son of prominent Circuit House industrialist Devang Gandhi was meticulously planned more than 1,300 kms away in the heart of Punjab.
“The matter is being thoroughly investigated, and the search for the remaining criminals is ongoing,” stated Jamshedpur SSP Piyush Pandey, confirming the inter-state operation. “The other accused will be arrested soon.”
Operating with the support of local Punjab authorities, Jamshedpur police officers have deployed a network of informants across Ludhiana to pinpoint Singh’s location. Investigators are also verifying whether the gangster is in Indonesia—where he reportedly fled after the crime—or if he has secretly returned to his home turf. Officials indicated that if Singh is found in Ludhiana, an immediate raid will be conducted; if he is still abroad, police plan to intercept him the moment he touches down on Indian soil.
An International Ransom Plot
The abduction, which sent shockwaves through the steel city, occurred on January 13 on the Kadma Link Road. In a scene reminiscent of a crime thriller, a Scorpio intercepted Kairav’s vehicle. Occupants posing as police officers forced the young man into their SUV and fled.
According to police, Tejinder Pal Singh fled to Indonesia with his close aide, Saad Alam, after the abduction. From there, he allegedly used international phone numbers to demand ransom from the Gandhi family. The pressure from law enforcement eventually became too much for the gang; on the night of January 26, the kidnappers abandoned Kairav on the Chauparan-Barhi stretch of Hazaribagh district, ending his 13-day ordeal.
Seven Months of Planning
The investigation uncovered that Singh had been orchestrating the crime for seven months. He reportedly recruited a local team through Saad Alam, who met with suspects Imran and Sabban Khan in Ludhiana to finalize the operation. In December, the gang conducted a detailed recce of the Gandhi family’s movements.
To ensure the plan’s success, Singh allegedly provided lead accomplice Guddu Singh with ₹1.5 lakh in cash and a pre-activated mobile phone. On January 5, Guddu Singh used ₹1 lakh of that seed money to procure the getaway Scorpio from Mohan Kumar in Patna.
The “Gang of 13” and Current Arrests
Police have identified 13 individuals involved in the transnational conspiracy, ranging from local henchmen in Bihar to the mastermind in Punjab. While seven suspects remain at large—including kingpin Tejinder Pal Singh, Saad Alam, and Sabban Khan—police have already successfully apprehended six key members:
- Guddu Singh
- Upendra Singh (currently hospitalized with a leg injury)
- Rameez Raja
- Imran
- Mohan Kumar
- Arjun Singh
The search continues for the remaining fugitives, including Rupesh Kumar Paswan, Ankit Kumar, Uday Kumar, and Vicky Kumar. As the Jamshedpur team continues its hunt in Ludhiana, SSP Pandey remains confident that the entire network will be dismantled soon.
