Jamshedpur, March 5: A special police team of city police launched a campaign against substance abuse in Golmuri and surrounding areas here on Saturday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) M Tamil Vanan led the police team during a raid behind the vegetable market in front of Abdul Bari College, Tinplate. Hereafter, the team raided several shops at Tinplate Chowk, Cable Town and various other public places, seizing gutkha, pan masala, cigarettes and other addictive substances.

Sources said the raids were a part of police effort to improve the law and order situation by cracking down on criminal elements most of whom are given to substance abuse. Pockets of addiction are very often the breeding ground for criminals, they said.

Sources said the entire district has been divided into four zones with separate teams to conduct raids against addiction.

The campaign against substance abuse will continue, said an official.
