Jamshedpur: Police foil attempt to kidnap NIT alumnus

Gamharia, July 7: Police successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt targeting a young man involved in digital marketing and an alumnus of NIT. The incident unfolded on Thursday late evening, and after nearly five hours of intensive efforts, the police from Adityapur, Gamharia, and RIT police stations foiled the abduction plot.

According to the available information, Sumit Raj, a resident of Gokul Nagar Society in RIT under the jurisdiction of Adityapur police station, was called to RIT morh by an individual named Md. Hasan. Upon arriving at RIT morh with his companion Arvind, Sumit discovered Hasan’s presence at the location. In a coercive manner, Hasan, aided by five other accomplices, forcibly made Sumit sit in a white car with registration number JHO1CZ/0945, covering his face. Subsequently, Sumit was taken to an undisclosed location.

During this distressing ordeal, the criminals demanded that Sumit provide them with the contact number of a relative capable of arranging a ten lakh rupee ransom immediately. Failure to comply with their demands would result in grave consequences. In response, Sumit provided the kidnappers with the contact numbers of his wife and his friend Arvind. Promptly, Arvind accompanied Sumit’s wife to the Adityapur police station to report the incident.

Upon observing the repeated calls from the kidnappers, Station In-Charge Rajan Kumar sprang into action, immediately informing SDPO Harvinder Singh and SP Anand Prakash. Following the SP’s instructions, a team led by the SDPO was swiftly assembled to initiate a search for the kidnappers. After relentless efforts spanning approximately five hours, the police successfully located the car in a secluded area near Arka Jain University Road in Gamharia. The kidnappers, upon sensing the police’s presence, fled the scene. In a stroke of luck, Sumit managed to escape from the vehicle under the cover of darkness and made his way to the main road, where he was relieved to spot the searching police personnel.

Throughout the night, the police diligently pursued the kidnappers, accompanied by Sumit, but unfortunately, no substantial leads were discovered. Investigations reveal that Sudarshan, a resident of Patna and an acquaintance of Sumit, masterminded the entire incident. Sudarshan, along with Hasan and several local criminals, conspired to abduct Sumit. Fortunately, the police acted promptly, thwarting their plans.
