Jamshedpur. The sensational daylight robbery at Vardhman Jewellers in Gudri Bazar under Sonari police station has been solved with the arrest of six men, including the mastermind, Jamshedpur police announced on Friday.
A mobile phone recovered from the crime scene turned out to be the crucial breakthrough that helped investigators crack the case.
According to police sources, the gang executed the heist on motorcycles and escaped with jewellery worth lakhs. In an attempt to wipe out evidence, they later dumped one of the bikes in a pond at Chandil. However, the mobile phone inadvertently left behind by the gang proved to be their undoing.
Police examined the phone’s call records and location history, which led them to the suspects. Combined with CCTV footage from the locality, investigators were able to piece together the gang’s movements before and after the robbery.
Investigations revealed that the arrested men were part of an interstate gang involved in multiple robberies across Jharkhand and neighbouring states.
Acting on the directive of SSP Piyush Pandey, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted. The SIT’s swift action led to the identification and arrest of half of the gang members. A manhunt has been launched to nab the remaining accused and recover the stolen ornaments.
“The mobile phone recovered from the spot played a vital role in cracking the case. Six men have been arrested, and we are confident of arresting the remaining members soon,” said a senior police official.
The breakthrough has brought a sense of relief to the city’s business community, which had been alarmed by the recent spate of robberies. Local traders and residents praised the police for their swift action and expressed confidence that the remaining culprits would also be brought to justice soon.
