Jamshedpur Police bust illegal gambling racket in Sakchi, six arrested

Jamshedpur:  Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in Sakchi Market on February 11, 2025, at 8:55 PM, leading to the arrest of six individuals involved in an illegal gambling operation. The accused were allegedly luring innocent people with false promises of doubling or quadrupling their money.

According to the police, the operation was set up behind Jaiswal Hotel, where a group of six to seven people was shouting loudly and enticing passersby to invest money in a fraudulent lottery scheme. Following orders from a senior officer, a raid team was immediately formed and dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, the suspects attempted to flee, but after a swift chase, six individuals were apprehended and brought to the Sakchi police station.

The arrested individuals were identified as Raees Ahmed, Arun Kumar Sharma, Pradeep Poddar, Bablu Kumar Mahato, Ganesh Yadav and Neeraj Kumar Singh. A case was registered under Sakchi Police Station Case No. 28/25, citing violations of Section 318(4)/292/3(5) BNS and the Bengal Gambling Act. The accused were produced before the Hon’ble Court in Jamshedpur and subsequently sent to jail.

During the raid, police seized several items, including a yellow-and-red gambling sheet with numbers printed on it, an INXON blue-colored pen, a blue Vivo touchscreen mobile and a total cash amount of Rs 1,570 recovered from the accused.

The raid was carried out under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Vinay Kumar Singh, assisted by Sub-Inspectors Jitendra Kumar Verma and Sumeet Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Pankaj Kumar Pranav and Thana Reserve Guard personnel.

Speaking on the matter, Sub-Inspector Vinay Kumar Singh stated, “We are committed to eradicating illegal activities in the city. Gambling and fraud-based schemes exploit innocent people and we will take strict action against those involved.”

Authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police to ensure a crime-free environment in the city.
