Jamshedpur pays homage to Founder Jamsetji Tata

Tata Sons chairman attends Founder’s Day celebrations at Jamshedpur Works

186th Founder’s Day

Jamshedpur, March 3: Tata Steel and Jamshedpur today paid homage to its Founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, also regarded as the legendary ‘Father of Indian Industry’ on his 186th Birth Anniversary. Celebrated as the Founder’s Day, the flagship event happens every year at Jamshedpur on March 3 to pay tributes to the founder’s vision of an industrial future with community welfare at its core.

The theme for this year’s Founder’s Day is Leadership in Market, Technology and Cost as we reaffirm our commitment to prioritising customer needs and leveraging technology to achieve global cost leadership.

The event at Jamshedpur Works started with paying homage to the Founder at the Works Main Gate by senior officials, Tata Workers Union (TWU) senior office-bearers, Group company officials and citizens of Jamshedpur.

N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, T V Narendran, CEO & MD Tata Steel, Koushik Chatterjee, Executive Director & Chief Financial Officer, Tata Steel, Ritu Raj Sinha, Managing Director, Tata Steel UISL, Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President Tata Workers’ Union and other dignitaries paid tribute to the visionary in a function at Jamshedpur Works.

Daisy Irani (wife of the late MD Dr JJ Irani), Ruchi Narendran (wife of Tata Steel CEO TV Narendran) among others, graced the occasion to pay their respects.

The tribute was manifested through the ceremonial offering of flowers, symbolizing a shared reverence for the occasion. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran took the opportunity to engage with those present, extending warm greetings and fostering a sense of camaraderie.

Representatives from various groups, including the Tata Workers Union, TISCO Mazdoor Union, and the Senior Citizens Committee, also actively participated in the event, contributing to the overall sense of unity and solidarity.

The representatives of different groups paid homage at the Founder’s Statue at the Works Main Gate.

This was followed by homage to the visionary at Postal Park area in the heart of Jamshedpur city.

On the eve of Founder’s Day (March 2), Chandrasekaran formally switched on illumination at Jubilee Park along with the senior leaders of Tata Steel & Group companies marking the tradition.

Every year, Tata Steel along with other Tata group companies celebrates the birth anniversary of the Founder and his vision of an industrial future with community welfare at its core.  J N Tata had begun his entrepreneurial journey with a textile mill in central India in the 1870s. His vision inspired the steel and power industry in India, set the foundation for technical education, and helped the country leapfrog to join the ranks of industrialised nations.

One of the key features of this year’s celebration were illumination of more than 20 landmark spots in Jamshedpur including buildings, dozens of roundabouts, etc.  The use of colourful lights as a key part of the celebrations has always been a welcome reminder to citizens and visitors of the beauty of the city. Jubilee Park shall be opened for citizens from March 3 to 5.
