Jamshedpur: NCORD meeting pledges strong action against drug trade

Jamshedpur: The Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi has said drugs pose not only a law-and-order challenge but also a grave threat to the future of youth. He directed strict action against traffickers and sellers, along with continuous awareness campaigns to safeguard young people from addiction.

The remarks came at a Narcotics Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting held at the Collectorate Auditorium, Jamshedpur on Wednesday. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rishabh Garg, ADM Law and Order Bhagirath Prasad, DTO Dhananjay, SDM Ghatshila Sunil Chandra, SDM Dhalbhum Chandrajit Singh, SDPO Ghatshila Ajit Kujur and other departmental officers were present.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to maintain special surveillance around school and college campuses and to intensify raids and patrolling in both rural and urban areas. He called for stronger coordination between police, excise, and other departments by strengthening the information system. He also stressed the need for regular public awareness drives to inform parents and youth about the harmful effects of drugs and the legal provisions against their use.

Citizens have been appealed to share information about illegal drug trade, consumption, or transportation by calling toll-free number 112 or Police Control Room number 0657-2431028. Authorities assured that all information will be treated confidentially.

Apart from senior district officials, representatives from education, health, municipal bodies, excise, and food and drug departments also attended the meeting.
