Jamshedpur: Thousands of women marched through the streets of Jamshedpur on Thursday to support the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ (Women’s Reservation Bill). Led by Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu, the “Nari Shakti Vandan Padyatra” celebrated the historic legislation that mandates 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.
The rally commenced at the Durga Puja Ground near Agrico Traffic Signal and concluded at the Bhalubasa Harijan School Ground. Participants carried placards advocating for women’s empowerment and chanted slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Nari Shakti Zindabad.” The event showcased Jharkhand’s cultural heritage, with many women dressed in traditional attire performing to local musical instruments, while Scout and Guide members also joined the march.
At the conclusion of the rally, the MLA initiated a mass signature campaign. Women signed their names to express gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership in passing the bill.
“This is a historic moment in India’s democratic history,” MLA Purnima Sahu addressed the gathering. “By increasing women’s participation in Parliament from 13.63% to 33%, this act ensures that our ‘half-population’ will now lead in policy-making and national development.”
Several prominent leaders joined the march, including former State Women’s Commission Chairperson Kalyani Sharan, former Potka candidate Meera Munda, Zila Parishad member Kusum Purty, and BJP district leaders Ruby Jha and Reena Chaudhary. The organizers noted that the massive turnout reflects a new era of political consciousness among the women of Jamshedpur.
