Jamshedpur: The Ahle-Sunnat Muslim community will observe Kunda Fatiha on January 23 (22nd Rajab-ul-Murajjab) in honour of Hazrat Jafar Sadiq Imam Hussain. The ritual involves offering Fatiha (prayers) over traditional dishes such as kheer and puri, prepared in new earthen pots (Kunda). The cooking of these dishes will begin on the night of January 22 and the Fatiha will take place the following morning.
Prominent religious scholar Saud Alam Qasmi highlighted the significance of this occasion, stating, “Hazrat Jafar Sadiq is revered by the Ahle-Sunnat as an Imam, known for his spiritual miracles (Karamat) and the acceptance of his prayers. It is believed that prayers offered in his name bring blessings and are swiftly answered.”
This event also marks the beginning of a series of festivals in the Muslim community.

Hazrat Imam Jafar Sadiq (RA), a descendant of Imam Mohammad Bakar, is remembered as a great Sufi who united physical and spiritual wisdom. According to Hadith, he was unparalleled in intelligence and vision among the family of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). His tomb is located in Jannatul Baqi, Madina.
Shab-e-Meraj celebrations on Jan 26
The Muslim community in Jamshedpur will also celebrate Shab-e-Meraj, commemorating the miraculous night journey of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), on January 26. Special prayers will be offered in mosques throughout the night, accompanied by the recitation of Naat-e-Pak and Milad Sharif.
Rashid from Hussaini Mission shared that a gathering would be organized at Mango’s Shia Jama Masjid, where Qasida would be recited, reflecting on the Miraj of the Prophet. The night will be dedicated to prayers and spiritual practices.
