Jamshedpur, July 25: In view of Muharram 2023, a meeting with the Central Peace Committee was held at Sidhgora Town Hall to ensure the maintenance of peace and law and order. Senior officials, including City SP K Vijay Shankar, SDM Dhalbhum Piyush Sinha, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Jaideep Tigga, participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, feedback from various peace committee gatherings in different police station areas was discussed. Assurances were given to Muharram committee licensees that their demands and issues concerning basic amenities like drinking water and electricity would be sympathetically addressed.

Officials stressed the importance of not altering the Muharram procession route and directed all committees to adhere strictly to the approved path. In preparation for the event, the administration and police will verify the designated route beforehand. Adequate magistrates and police officers, along with a sizable police force, will be deployed to maintain peace and law and order throughout the district.

Addressing concerns related to misinformation, the public was urged to report any false news or rumours being spread on social media to the nearest police station or administrative officials promptly. A special team will also keep a close eye on social media to prevent any attempts to disrupt social harmony.

Moreover, strict measures were issued against biker gangs and individuals causing disturbances while intoxicated, ensuring a peaceful and respectful commemoration of Muharram 2023.

With concerns over potential misinformation and communal incitement on digital platforms, the police have intensified monitoring to ensure a peaceful and harmonious observance of Muharram.

City SP, Mr. K Vijay Shankar, emphasized the need for vigilance against the spread of false news or rumors that could disrupt the communal harmony during this sacred event. A special team has been assigned to closely monitor social media platforms and promptly address any harmful content that may emerge.

“ In recent times, social media has become a powerful tool for disseminating information, but it also has the potential to be misused by mischievous elements to instigate communal tension. The authorities are determined to curb such activities and maintain a peaceful environment throughout the city. To encourage responsible usage of social media, the public has been urged to report any suspicious or inflammatory posts to the nearest police station or administrative officials immediately. The collaborative effort between the community and the police aims to ensure that Muharram is celebrated with respect and tranquility, upholding the spirit of unity and solidarity,” said an official.

As the city prepares for this significant religious event, the administration seeks to foster an atmosphere of communal harmony and mutual respect. The police’s active monitoring of social media activities serves as a crucial step in safeguarding peace and order during Muharram.
