Jamshedpur, August 6: Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato on Friday met Union Jal Shakti minister and requested for the provision of irrigation facilities to the farmers of Patamda, Vamani, Bodam areas of East Singhbhum district.
The MP in a letter to the Union minister informed that for the last several years, he is trying to construct an irrigation scheme for this area.
“In this regard, local officials have informed that Nimdih, Vamani, Bodam and Patamda areas are outside the command area of Subarnarekha Multipurpose Project. The tribal, backward and poor farmers of these areas cultivate vegetables in abundance and make their living by selling it in the surrounding area of Jamshedpur. If the irrigation system is ensured in these areas, then the economic development of the farmers of this region will take place and their migration in search of employment will also stop to a great extent,” the MP informed.
Significantly, the MP had also secretary, Water Resources Department, Jharkhand on April 7, 2021.
The Chief Engineer, Chandil Complex, Jamshedpur has been directed to prepare a plan in this regard by the Secretary. Taking quick action by the Chief Engineer, a lift irrigation scheme has been envisaged by pumping it from Chandil reservoir. By which irrigation facility will be provided in 12000-15000 hectares at a cost of Rs 600 crore. The name of this scheme has been named Patmada Pump Canal. The work of detailed survey of this scheme and preparation of DPR etc is likely to be completed in a year.
The MP requested the Union Minister of Jal Shakti to remind the Water Resources Department, Government of Jharkhand from his level also for speedy implementation of this scheme.
The Union Minister assured to instruct his officers to review the entire scheme and also assured that the ministry officials would correspond with the state government in this regard so that it can be implemented on the ground in the interest of farmers.
The MP has supported the Jharkhand government demand to the Central Government to provide additional central assistance of Rs 200 Crore for the Subarnarekha multi-purpose.
