Jamshedpur MLA Saryu writes to JNAC for waiving off water connection charges

Jamshedpur, May 11: Jamshedpur  East MLA Saryu Rai has written a letter to the energy secretary of Jharkhand and Special Officer of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC)) to waive off the connection charges for drinking water in Jamshedpur.

The Independent MLA has written to energy secretary that regarding providing the company’s electricity to the consumers in the Tata lease area as per the Tata Lease agreement, the company has to provide electricity facility to the citizens of Jamshedpur like other civic amenities. But there are many settlements in the Tata leased area where electricity facility has not been provided by the company so far. Thus the company is lagging behind in providing electricity facility in the Tata Lease area of Jamshedpur.

“It is surprising that the company is providing electricity facility in Adityapur and Seraikela area outside Jamshedpur, but not in its lease area,” the letter states.

Saryu Roy has asked the Special Officer, JNAC to waive the drinking water connection fee in Jamshedpur. He has said that at present a minimum of Rs 8260 will have to be paid for taking water connection in Jamshedpur. A year ago this fee was only Rs 3500. per connection.

“The water connection fee is not being charged from the consumers in the new drinking water projects that the Urban Development Department is now implementing. According to this spirit of the department, the consumers taking new connection in old schemes should also be kept in the same category in terms of water connection charges,” the letter suggests.
